Problem / Question
A LiDAR or camera housing is not just a box. It positions a sensor, manages heat, and must keep that alignment stable in the field.
Key factors
- Mounting-face flatness and hole position set the sensor's boresight.
- Window and aperture geometry must respect the optical path.
- Heat from the sensor needs a path out of the housing.
- Sealing surfaces and fasteners must survive vibration and temperature cycling.
Manufacturing considerations
Machining keeps the design flexible before tooling is justified and lets the critical faces be finished precisely. Datums should reflect how the housing mounts in the vehicle, not how it is machined.
What information a supplier needs
The sensor model and mounting interface, thermal load, sealing requirement and the environmental range. These are capability inputs — no project record is implied.
